A hidden jewel on the Xudum River, Kanana is located in the southwest of the Okavango Delta inside the Kanana Private Concession. The area encompasses islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony, and knobthorn, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants, and animals. The water-based camp is tranquil, serene, and excellent for those who wish to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Okavango.
Guests are accommodated in eight spacious safari tents including one honeymoon tent and one family tent. Each tent features ensuite bathroom facilities, shower, and hot and cold running water with a flush toilet. Tents are well-spaced for privacy while remaining a comfortable distance from main camp. Camp facilities also include a private airstrip, dining room, bar, sitting area and campfire overlooking the Xudum River, swimming pool, and sleep-out deck.
Activities change depending on the water levels within the Delta, but include morning and late afternoon-to-night game drives in open safari vehicles, mekoro canoe or motorboat through the waterways (water level dependent), birding, fishing, and of course guided bush walks.
Kanana boasts private access to one of Southern Africa’s largest heronries and is an excellent area for regular sightings of the Pels Fishing Owl.
Fishing is available throughout the year except for January and February with excellent bream fishing May to September and superb Tiger fish during September to mid-november. You can also fish for tilapia, pike, and sharptooth catfish.
