Leroo La Tau
Leroo La Tau is situated in the pristine wilderness of the renowned Makgadikgadi National Park. Perched high on a cliff, overlooking the dry riverbed of the Boteti River, this exceptional retreat offers guests the opportunity to experience exhilarating wildlife encounters and breathtaking vistas.
Leroo La Tau means ‘footprints of the lion’ due to the constant presence of lion in the area. The erratic climate and extreme seasonality is a constant source of drama for the wildlife in the Makgadigadi as well as the humans who visit the region. Game viewing excursions in 4×4 vehicles or on foot can reveal Chobe bushbuck, leopard, brown and spotted hyena, kudu, jackal, porcupine, and possibly the rare white rhino. Most unique, are the crocodiles and an amazing pod of hippo at Leroo La Tau which have survived in extremely adverse conditions for over 12 years.
The best season for game viewing at Leroo La Tau is from April to October, when large herds of zebra and other wildlife congregate at the Boteti River to find water. Lions are very active in this area. The nearby Motswana village offers the opportunity for a cultural excursion to learn about the heritage and traditions of the local people. Day trips to the Nxai Pan, Baines Baobabs, the Njuca Hills and the Makgadikgadi National Park can be arranged on request. Bird watching is particularly rewarding during the November-April months where you are likely to see Equatorial and European bird species flourishing within the Makgadikgadi National Park as well as other species migrating in from the Okavango Delta.
The wood and thatch main building of the lodge houses the main lounge, dining area, bar, reception area and curio shop. This is an ideal spot in which to enjoy a sundowner and soak up the striking view of the riverbed. Meals are served by Leroo La Tau’s friendly staff in the dining room in the main building. Evenings can be enjoyed in the amphitheatre alongside the warmth of the fire, a great time to observe the various animals that venture to the waterhole in front of the lodge. There is a plunge pool on the front lawn, great for a refreshing dip on hot afternoons. Leroo La Tau also features an entertainment room, equipped with satellite TV.
Each of the 12 tented chalet is raised on an individual wooden platform with its own private viewing decks, providing superb views of the Boteti riverbed. Each chalet features two double beds with down duvets, ceiling fans and en suite bath and toilet facilities.
